Montessori
education was founded in 1907 by Dr. Maria
Montessori, the first woman in Italy to become a
physician. She based her educational methods on
scientific observation of children's learning
process. Guided by her discovery that children
teach themselves, Dr. Montessori designed a
prepared environment in which children could
choose from a number of developmentally
appropriate activities.The Montessori
environment contains specially designed,
manipulative materials for development that
invite children to engage in learning activities
of their own choice. Under guidance of a trained
teacher, children in Montessori classrooms learn
by making discoveries with the materials,
cultivating concentration, motivation,
self-discipline and a love of learning.
Our Beliefs
About Children
We Believe Five Things About Children.
Five key principles set the tone for early
childhood learning at Little Wonders Montessori.
We Believe Children Ought To Be Recognized As
Different From Adults.
Compared to adults, they think in different
patterns and they learn in different ways. They
possess sensibilities and mental powers which
are unique to their particular levels of
developing awareness.
We Believe That Children Differ From One
Another.
Montessori materials have been designed
carefully and thoroughly researched to fit the
developmentally needs and characteristics of the
children. Based on the different developmental
pace of each child, we "follow" the child and
provide learning experiences appropriate to the
child's needs.
We Believe That The Most Important Years Of
Growth Are The First Six Years Of Life.
This is when unconscious learning is gradually
brought to the conscious level. This crucial
phase sets the foundation for openness,
curiosity and wonder, the attributes for
successful lifelong learning. Montessori
children learn to initiate things on their own.
They are more open to change, growth and new
experiences. They are ready to get more out of
life itself.
We Believe That Every Child Is Gifted In Some
Way.
and that a rich, stimulating environment will
allow each child to bring forth his or her own
special talents and abilities.
We Believe That Children Have A Genuine Need For
Purposeful Work.
A child works for different reasons than an
adult. Rather than for profit or status, a child
works willingly to acquire something infinitely
more precious - the unfolding of his or her
human potential and value to mankind. |
